Location: Cabo San Lucas is located at the tip of the extensive Baja California peninsula, and is easily accessible from US and Canada. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. Driving: In the city of Cabo San Lucas it’s obligatory to wear a seatbelt and stay within the speed limit. Speed limits are in kilometers, not miles. Highway enforcement is less rigorous than in the US and Canada, even more reason to drive responsibly and defensively. In town, where many police direct traffic by hand, speeds are enforced. Be careful not to enter one-way streets the wrong way. Both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo’s downtown areas are predominantly one way. Check the traffic flow before you make that turn.
Bank and Currency: ATM machines readily accept foreign debit and credit cards and can be found everywhere in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. The banks, however, offer limited currency exchange. Most of them do not change dollars. There are many money exchange booths found in the downtown areas of both towns. Although the exchange rate will be slightly lower, they are faster and more convenient to use. The peso is the national currency, although US dollars are widely accepted in businesses throughout both towns. Change is made on pesos. Major credit cards are accepted in most establishments; but ask before you order, as not all restaurants and stores accept them. Traveler’s checks are also widely accepted.
Weather: Cabo San Lucas sits on the Tropic of Cancer and has a pleasant sub-tropical climate of cool nights and warm days. Average daytime temperatures are 78º F and evenings are warmer in the summer months. Summers are hot, especially during the months of August through October, with daytime temperatures in the high 90sº F, coming down to 75 to 80º F at night. Winter temperatures range from 70º F in the daytime to the low 60sº F at night. Los Cabos is bordered by desert, and receives little rainfall and lots of sunbeams. The rain storming season is June to October, with September the rainiest month. Then November to April, the peak vacationer season, offers lukewarm days and fresh nights. Spring and fall are much hotter, with the occasional tropical hurricane from July to October. Most of the hotels utilize the proper opportunity to cash on. So, come and visit this paradise anytime between November to April to enjoy the sunlit beaches and the enthralling beauty of this place.
